How do I edit my Quick Quote Agent instructions?

Last updated: June 30, 2026

You can now update how your Quick Quote agent prices loads using plain English, with no technical formatting required. Just describe the pricing behavior you want, validate it, and save.

Quick Quote agents now have an Edit action in your Agents table. The edit page gives you two separate fields:

  • Buy Rate Instructions: how the agent prices what you pay carriers

  • Sell Rate Instructions: how the agent prices what you charge customers

When you open the editor, it loads your agent's current instructions, so you always start from what your agent is doing today rather than a blank slate.

How to edit your agent

  1. Go to Agents and click Edit on the Quick Quote agent you want to update.

  2. Review the current Buy Rate and Sell Rate instructions already loaded on the page.

  3. Make your changes in plain English. We recommend small, focused edits.

  4. Click Validate Instructions to check whether the system can apply your changes.

  5. Review the feedback (see below).

  6. When the status is Supported, click Save Validated Rules.

Understanding validation

Before anything is saved, the system checks your instructions and returns one of three results:

  • Supported: All your rules can be applied. You're ready to save.

  • Partial: Some rules work, but others can't be applied yet. You'll see which ones and why.

  • Unsupported: The instructions can't be applied as written.

For every validation, you'll see supported rules, the reason any rule wasn't accepted, any warnings, and, when everything is supported, a Proposed Changes preview showing the before-and-after of what will change.

You can only save when validation comes back fully Supported.

Tips for smooth editing

  • Start from your existing instructions and make small changes rather than rewriting everything.

  • Validate often as you edit.

  • Resolve unsupported clauses one at a time, using the reason text the system gives you.

  • Always review Proposed Changes before saving.

  • Save only when the status is Supported.

  • If your save is blocked because something changed since you validated, just click Validate Instructions again and re-save.

Examples

Here are instructions the agent can apply today:

  • "For van loads over 800 miles, apply 12% markup." (sell rule)

  • "Minimum margin amount $200." (margin floor)

And an example of something not yet supported:

  • "On Wednesdays add an extra $100." Day-of-week conditions aren't supported yet. Validation will flag this and you can rewrite it into a supported rule.

Good to know

  • Instructions are limited to 4,000 characters per validation.

  • You can run up to 10 validations per hour.

  • A validation stays valid for 30 minutes. After that, or if you edit the text again, you'll need to re-validate before saving.
