Forwarding pre-installation emails to Drumkit
Last updated: March 10, 2026
Drumkit only processes emails that arrive in your inbox after your installation is complete. If you open an email that was already in your inbox before you set up Drumkit, the smart sidebar will not load any suggestions for it — this is expected behavior, not a bug.
This article explains the simple workaround for situations where you need Drumkit to act on an older email.
Why This Happens
Drumkit reads emails as they come in. Because it was not active when older emails were received, it has no record of them and cannot process them when you open them after the fact. Forwarding the email to yourself creates a new, fresh copy that arrives after installation — which Drumkit can then read and process normally.
How to Forward an Email to Yourself
Open the email you want Drumkit to process.
Click Forward (or Reply All if you need to preserve the original thread context).
In the To field, enter your own work email address.
Send the email.
When the forwarded message arrives in your inbox, open it.
The Drumkit smart sidebar will read the new message and surface the relevant suggestions.
Tip: You do not need to add any note or modify the email body before forwarding. Just send it as-is so Drumkit receives the full original content.
When You Might Need This
You are new to Drumkit and have active loads or open conversations in your inbox that predate your installation.
A teammate forwarded you an email chain before you had Drumkit set up, and it arrived before your installation was complete.
You were away (vacation, sick leave, etc.) and returned to a backlog of emails that Drumkit missed.
Things to Keep in Mind
The forwarded email is what Drumkit will read — not the original. If the forward cuts off part of the thread or omits key details, Drumkit may not have the full picture. Make sure the forwarded version contains all the relevant information.
This is a one-time workaround, not a regular step. Once Drumkit is set up and running, all new emails will be processed automatically. You should only need this for emails from before your installation date.
If you receive a high volume of pre-installation emails, prioritize the most time-sensitive ones rather than forwarding everything at once. Focus on open loads, pending quotes, or upcoming appointments first.
Common Questions
Q: Do I need to do anything special when forwarding, like adding a subject line or tag?
A: No. Just forward the email to yourself as-is. Drumkit will read the forwarded message the same way it reads any other incoming email.
Q: I forwarded the email but Drumkit still isn't showing a suggestion.
A: Make sure the forwarded email has fully arrived in your inbox and that you have it open before checking the sidebar. If it still doesn't load, try refreshing your inbox. If the issue persists, contact your team lead or Drumkit support.
Q: Can I forward emails to someone else's inbox so they can use Drumkit on them?
A: No — Drumkit reads emails in the inbox of the account it is connected to. To process an email, it needs to arrive in your own inbox.
