What Is Kit Insights?

Kit Insights is a card at the top of your Quick Quote results that gives you one recommended buy rate, instead of asking you to choose between DAT, Triumph, SONAR, and other rating sources yourself.

Kit checks how much the live market sources agree with each other, sets aside any that look unreliable, and averages the rest into a single number. Your usual margin is already applied. You can expand "How Kit calculated this" on the card to see exactly which sources were used and what each one quoted.

You're never locked in. Kit Insights starts selected, but you can click any other source card or type in your own buy rate at any time.

Where Does the Number Come From?

Kit Insights is built from your live market rates, specifically DAT RateView, Triumph, and SONAR.

Here's the process:

  • Check confidence. Kit looks at how confident each source is in its own number. Triumph and SONAR are only included when their confidence is 80% or higher.

  • Average the reliable sources. Any source that didn't meet the confidence bar still shows up in the source table, marked "unused in avg.," but it's left out of the calculation.

  • Apply your margin. Kit applies your personal default margin if you've set one, or your company's default if not. Kit isn't recommending a margin, it's applying yours.

Nothing here is hidden. Open "How Kit calculated this" on any quote and you can reproduce the math by hand from the source table.

Why is the Kit Insights number different from the DAT card? Because it's usually an average of more than one source, not just DAT. The source table shows each individual number so you can see where the blended rate ce from.

Understanding the Confidence Rating

The Confidence rating tells you how closely your rate sources agree with each other, also called the spread:

  • High: sources are within 10% of each other

  • Medium: sources are 10% to 20% apart

  • Low: sources are more than 20% apart

This is a read on how settled the market looks for that lane, not a guarantee that the rate will win. When you see Low confidence, it's worth a second look before quoting since it means the sources themselves are telling you the lane is unsettled.

Why Don't I See Kit Insights on Every Quote?

If none of the supported sources return a usable rate for a given lane, there's nothing for Kit to average, and the card is simply hidden for that quote. Your normal source cards still work as usual, so pricing is never blocked.

If you think Kit Insights should have appeared (for example, DAT or Triumph did return a rate on that lane) reach out with the lane and equipment and we'll take a look.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I have to use the Kit Insights recommendation? No. It starts selected in the calculator, but you can click any other source card or enter your own buy rate at any time.

  • Why did it skip one of my sources? Triumph and SONAR are only included when their confidence is 80% or higher. Lower-confidence sources still appear in the source table, just marked "unused in avg."

  • Where does the margin come from? Your own default: your personal setting if you have one, otherwise your company's default. Kit isn't recommending a margin, it's applying yours.

  • Does it use my past loads or my customers' quoting history? Not today. Kit Insights works from live market rates only.

  • Does it change what gets recorded as a quote? No. A confirmed quote is still created the same way it always has been, when you copy, create a draft reply, or submit.

  • Is it available for LTL or batch quotes? Not currently. It's available for full truckload (FTL) single quotes.
