What Builder reads: attachments
Last updated: October 23, 2026
Builder reads the email body plus that email's own PDF, Word, Excel and CSV attachments. Scanned PDFs work. Photos (JPG, PNG) and emails attached to emails aren't read.
| Attachment | Read by Builder? | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| PDF, including scanned PDFs | Yes | First 50 pages |
| Word (.docx, .doc) | Yes | Up to 10 MB |
| Excel (.xlsx, .xls) | Yes | Up to 15 MB |
| CSV | Yes | Up to 10 MB |
| Photos and screenshots (.jpg, .png) | No | – |
| Emails attached to emails (.eml, .msg) | No | – |
| Zip files, PowerPoint | No | – |
When a file is skipped, Builder still reads the email body and the other attachments. The same rules apply to Quick Quote: see What Drumkit reads: attachments and follow-up emails.
A clean PDF from the customer's system reads best. A scan works; a phone photo of a printout doesn't.
FAQs
The tender is all in the PDF and the email just says "see attached." Is that OK?
Yes. Builder reads the body and the attachments together, so a one-line email with a full PDF fills the form just as well.
The tender is a photo or a screenshot. Why is the form empty?
Builder doesn't read image files today. Ask the customer for a PDF, or fill the form in yourself.
The PDF is long. Does Builder read all of it?
It reads the first 50 pages. Check anything after that yourself.
The rate con is on an earlier email in the thread. Will Builder see it?
No. Each suggestion comes from one email and its own attachments. Open the email that has the attachment, or forward it to yourself.
A teammate sent me the tender as an attached email. Why didn't Kit pick it up?
Builder doesn't open emails attached to emails (.eml or .msg). Ask them to use Forward instead, or open the attached email and forward it to yourself.
Handwriting or a poor scan came through wrong.
Scans are read, but faint or handwritten text can be misread. Check those fields closely, and send us the example if it keeps happening with one customer.
