What Drumkit reads: attachments and follow-up emails
Last updated: October 23, 2026
Kit reads the email body and most business attachments: PDFs (scanned ones too), Word, Excel and CSV files. It doesn't read photos or emails attached to emails. When the customer follows up on an open request, Kit updates that request instead of starting a new one.
Attachments
File type | Does Kit read it? | Limit |
|---|---|---|
PDF, including scanned PDFs | Yes | First 50 pages |
Word (.docx, .doc) | Yes | Up to 10 MB |
Excel (.xlsx, .xls) | Yes | Up to 15 MB |
CSV | Yes | Up to 10 MB |
Photos and images (.jpg, .png, screenshots) | No | – |
Emails attached to emails (.eml, .msg) | No | – |
Zip files and PowerPoint | No | – |
When Kit skips a file, it still reads the email body and any other attachments.
The rate request is a photo of a printed tender. Will Kit read it?
No. Kit doesn't read image files, including phone photos and screenshots. Ask the customer for a PDF, or type the lane into Quick Quote yourself. A scanned PDF works fine.
The tender is longer than 50 pages. What happens?
Kit reads the first 50 pages. Anything after that won't be filled in, so check the later stops or line items yourself.
A teammate forwarded me a request as an attachment. Why didn't Kit pick it up?
Kit doesn't open emails that are attached to other emails (.eml or .msg files). Ask your teammate to use Forward so the original message is in the body, or open the attachment and forward that email to yourself.
Follow-up emails
The customer changed the pickup date. Does Kit update my request?
Yes, as long as the request is still open: you haven't quoted it yet and it's less than 7 days old. Kit updates the equipment, dates, addresses and stops with what the new email says. A detail the customer leaves out of the follow-up is kept, never wiped.
They asked for the same lane with different equipment. Is that the same request?
No. Same lane, same dates, different equipment (a reefer instead of a van, say) is a new request, so you'll see a second lane to quote.
The customer replied "thanks, got it." Does that create anything?
No. Replies that only acknowledge, and notes your own teammates add to a thread that already has a request, don't create anything new.
The shipper sent an update to a tender. Does the load-building form change?
Yes, while the suggestion is still waiting for you. That's up to 7 days, or up to 30 days if the pickup date hasn't passed. Kit fills in fields that were blank and replaces a value only when the new email states it. It ignores the quoted history underneath. Once you've built the load or dismissed the suggestion, follow-ups don't change anything. Make the change in your TMS.
Does Kit read the whole thread for a tender?
For load building, Kit works from one email and its attachments. In a reply (RE:), it skips the quoted history below the new message. In a forward (FW:), it reads the forwarded content, so forwarding a tender to yourself gives Kit the full original.
Forwards
Does it work if a teammate forwards me a quote request?
Yes. Kit reads the forwarded content as if it came to you directly.
Can I forward an email to myself so Kit reads it?
Yes, in Outlook and Gmail. A forward to yourself counts as a new incoming email. This is the way to get Kit to read anything that arrived before you signed up.
