Kit Insights: the recommended rate and confidence

Last updated: October 23, 2026

Kit Insights is the card at the top of your Quick Quote results that gives you one recommended buy rate, so you don't have to choose between DAT, Triumph and SONAR yourself. It shows how sure it is, and exactly how it got the number. It's available if your team has it turned on; ask your Drumkit admin.

The Kit Insights card above your other rate cards

What's on the card

  • Buy Rate: Kit's recommended carrier cost, with the per-mile rate. All prices include fuel.
  • Price Range: the low and high ends from the sources Kit used. Hover it for the range per mile.
  • Markup (or Margin, depending on how your team prices): the percentage Kit applies on top.
  • Confidence: High, Medium or Low, based on how much the sources agree. More on that below.

Kit Insights starts selected, so its buy rate and markup flow straight into Rate Breakdown. You're never locked in: click any source card under or select your source, or type your own buy rate.

Where the number comes from

Kit Insights uses your live market sources: DAT RateView, Triumph (Greenscreens) and SONAR, whichever your company has connected. Open How Kit calculated this on the card to see each step with your lane's real numbers:

  1. Check source confidence. Triumph and SONAR each report how confident they are in their own rate. Kit only uses one if it's at 80% or higher. You see this step only when Triumph or SONAR is in the mix.
  2. Average price sources. Kit averages the buy rates of the sources that passed into one number. If only one source passed, it uses that source's rate.
  3. Apply markup. Kit applies your default: your personal default if you've saved one as a percentage, otherwise your company's.

Under the steps, a table lists every source with its Buy and Range. Sources that didn't make the cut are greyed out and marked unused in avg., so you can still see what they said. You can redo the math by hand from that table.

The markup on the card is the default you or your company already set. Kit doesn't pick one for you. To change it, see Set buy rate, margin and sell rate.

What Confidence means

Confidence tells you how closely the sources agree with each other (the spread):

  • High: spread below 10%.
  • Medium: spread from 10% to 20%.
  • Low: spread over 20%.

Hover the question mark next to Confidence to see the current spread for this lane. It tells you how settled the market looks. It can't tell you whether the rate will win. When you see Low, take a second look before you quote.

The Confidence tooltip with the current spread

With only one usable source there's nothing to compare, so the spread is zero and Confidence reads High. The tooltip says when that's the case.

FAQs

Why don't I see Kit Insights on this quote?

Either your team doesn't have it turned on, or none of DAT, Triumph or SONAR returned a usable rate for this lane, so there was nothing to average. Your other cards still work as usual. If you think it should have appeared, send the lane and equipment to support@drumkit.ai.

Why is the Kit Insights number different from the DAT card?

It's usually an average of more than one source. The source table shows each one so you can see where the blend came from.

Why did it skip one of my sources?

Triumph and SONAR are only used when their own confidence is 80% or higher. They still appear in the table, marked unused in avg.

Does it use my company's past loads?

No. Kit Insights uses live market rates only (for auto transport quotes, Super Dispatch). Your TMS history shows on its own Lane History card if your team has it.

Does it change what counts as a quote?

No. A lane is marked Quoted when you send, draft or copy your reply, the same as always.

Is it available for LTL or Batch Quote?

Not today. Kit Insights shows on single truckload (TL) quotes.
