Quote a multi-stop lane (beta)

Last updated: October 23, 2026

Add the extra stops to Quick Quote with Add Stop, click Get Quick Quote, and DAT prices the route two ways: Leg-to-Leg and Longest Leg. Pick the one that fits the route. Multi-stop quoting is in beta, so your team needs it turned on.

Here's the kind of email we mean

From: Dana Ortiz, Lakeshore Packaging
Subject: Rate request - Chicago to Dallas, one stop in Indianapolis

Hi,

Need a rate on this one:

Pickup: Chicago, IL 60601, Sat 3/14
Stop: Indianapolis, IN 46204 (drop 10 pallets)
Deliver: Dallas, TX 75201, Sun 3/15
53' van, 38,000 lbs

Thanks,
Dana

1. Add your stops

Open the email and the Quick Quote form. If Kit already found the extra stop, it's filled in. If not, click Add Stop and type the city, state or ZIP into Location. Stops are labeled Pickup, Stop 1, Stop 2 and so on, then Dropoff. Use the remove icon on a stop to take it out.

Add Stop, with Stop 1 between Pickup and Dropoff

Kit is still learning to fill in stops between pickup and dropoff, so check the email for stops it may have missed.

2. Get the rate

Click Get Quick Quote. The route summary shows the extra stops (for example +1 stop), and you get two DAT RateView cards, one for each way of pricing the route.

RateView cards for Leg-to-Leg and Longest Leg

3. Pick Leg-to-Leg or Longest Leg

Card

How it's priced

Best for

Leg-to-Leg

DAT prices each leg on its own (pickup to stop 1, stop 1 to stop 2, and so on), and the legs are added up.

Routes where every leg is a real haul.

Longest Leg

DAT prices the trip as one leg, from the first pickup to the final delivery, plus a stop fee for each stop in between.

Routes with short hops between stops, where pricing each little leg on its own would overcharge.

Hover the info icon next to RateView on either card to see how it was priced. On Longest Leg, that explanation includes the stop fee line, for example Intermediate stop: 1 x $200 = $200. Click the card you want to use as your buy rate, then set your sell rate in Rate Breakdown as usual.

Set your stop fee

Longest Leg adds a fee for every stop between pickup and dropoff. It starts at $200 a stop. To change it, select the Longest Leg card and edit Stop Fee. To keep the new amount for future quotes, click the save prompt next to it (Click to save $… as default stop fee). The saved fee is personal to you.

That's it. Send or draft your reply the same way as for any lane. See Send or draft your reply.

FAQs

Which method should I use?

If the stops are close together (short hops between stops), Longest Leg is usually closer to what a carrier will charge. If every leg is long, use Leg-to-Leg.

Do other rate sources price multi-stop lanes?

Greenscreens prices the full route with every stop. Truckstop prices first pickup to last dropoff and accounts for the stops in between. SONAR and lane history use the first and last stop only.

Is there a limit on stops?

No set limit. Each stop needs a location Drumkit can find.

I don't see Add Stop.

Multi-stop quoting is a beta your team turns on. Ask your Drumkit admin. You may still see extra stops when Kit found them in the email.

Can Builder build a multi-stop load?

That depends on your TMS. See Which TMSs Builder supports.
