Here's the kind of email we mean

From: Dana Ortiz, Lakeshore Packaging
Subject: Rate request - Chicago IL to Dallas TX

Hi,

Can you get me a rate on this one? Need it by end of day if possible.

Pickup: Chicago, IL 60601, Thu 11/6
Deliver: Dallas, TX 75201, Fri 11/7
42,000 lbs paper goods, 53' van

Thanks,
Dana

1. Open the sidebar

Open the email and open Drumkit: the Drumkit button in Outlook, the Drumkit icon in Chrome, or the Drumkit plugin in Front. On the New view, Kit says it found a lane to quote and has already selected it for you. The Quick Quote form below is filled in.

Kit found the lane and filled in Quick Quote

2. Check the lane

Fields marked AI-filled came from the email. Give them a quick look:

  • Transport Type: van, reefer, flatbed and so on.
  • Pickup and Dropoff: a Location (city and state, or ZIP) and an optional date.
  • Customer: shown when your team has a TMS connected.

Fix anything that's off. Nothing goes to your customer until you send it.

3. Get the rate

Click Get Quick Quote. In a few seconds you'll see a rate card for each pricing source your team has connected, such as DAT's RateView. One card is already selected as your buy rate. Click a different card to use that one instead.

Rate cards after Get Quick Quote

Not sure what a number on the card means? See Read your rate card.

4. Set your sell rate

Scroll to Rate Breakdown. Your default markup is already added to the Buy rate, and Sell shows what you'll quote. Change the markup for this quote, or type the exact Sell rate you want.

Quote the same markup most of the time? Save it as your default. See Set buy rate, margin and sell rate.

5. Send it

Under Draft Response, your reply is written and addressed to the sender. Edit it if you like. In Outlook, click Send Email, or open the arrow next to it and pick Draft Email to look it over in Outlook first.

That's it. Kit moves the lane to Quoted and you're on to the next one.

Using Gmail or Front, or a shared mailbox? The buttons differ a little. See Send or draft your reply. Quoting from a bidding portal instead? See Use Drumkit on a bidding portal.

FAQs

The email has more than one lane. What do I do?

Kit lists each lane as its own suggestion. Quote the first, then click the next one. If your team has Batch Quote, it can price every lane at once and put them in one reply. See Quote a whole list with Batch Quote.

Kit didn't find anything in this email.

You can still quote it: type the lane into the form and click Get Quick Quote. If you expected Kit to pick it up, see Kit is still reading, or didn't find my request.

Why did Quick Quote reset?

Quick Quote follows the email you have open. Click a different email and it starts fresh for that one. Finish and send before you move on.

Do I have to fill in the dates?

Usually not. Dates are optional unless your team has made them required.

The customer didn't say what equipment they need.

Quick Quote starts with your team's default equipment (usually Van). Change Transport Type if you know it's something else.

Does getting a quote count as quoting the customer?

No. Kit marks a lane Quoted only when you send, draft, copy or submit the quote. Opening the email or clicking Get Quick Quote doesn't count. See See what's been handled.

The DAT card says Enable instead of showing a rate.

Your DAT seat isn't connected to Drumkit yet. See Connect your DAT seat.
