SONAR
Last updated: October 23, 2026
If your company has FreightWaves SONAR, Quick Quote shows a SONAR card with SONAR's TRAC spot rate for the lane, plus a quick read on capacity: how tight the lane is and which way it's moving.
What's on the card
Row | What it tells you |
|---|---|
Buy Rate | SONAR's spot rate for the lane, with the per-mile rate. |
Price Range | The low-to-high range. Hover it for the range per mile. All SONAR prices include fuel. |
TRAC Confidence | How sure SONAR is about the rate, out of 5. |
Lane Score | SONAR's score for the lane, out of 100. Not shown for flatbed. |
Current Capacity | How easy trucks are to find right now. Green is loose, red is tight. |
Directional Change | Whether capacity is loosening or tightening. Same colors. |
Coverage Guidance | SONAR's short note on covering this lane. |
If SONAR has no capacity data for the lane, the card says Lane capacity data unavailable. (or, for flatbed, Lane capacity not available for this equipment.). The rate still works.
Tight capacity that's getting tighter is your cue to price above the midpoint. When it's loose and loosening, you have room to price tighter.
Good to know
- SONAR prices US lanes only, from the first pickup to the last dropoff.
- SONAR prices by ZIP code, so a full ZIP on each stop gives the best match.
- Box trucks, sprinters and drayage are priced as van.

FAQs
Is SONAR live, or coming soon?
It's live. If your company has a SONAR subscription, ask your Drumkit admin to connect it.
Does Kit Insights use SONAR?
Yes, when SONAR's confidence is high enough. See Kit Insights.
Why is SONAR higher than DAT on the same lane?
They use different data and windows, and SONAR's price includes fuel. Compare the per-mile rates, and lean on whichever matches how you buy trucks.
